The short answer
A TV channel needs three things to be carried on a FAST network: rights-cleared programming with enough volume to fill a repeating linear schedule, a live electronic program guide, and ad-insertion signaling. The programming is the part most independent channels already have. The other two are the reason most of them never get carried.
FaithNFreedomTV reached its first FAST carriage in August 2026, when the channel went live on Airy TV, the free ad-supported streaming television service operated by Showfer Media LLC. What follows is what that actually required, written by the people who built it.
What a FAST network is
FAST stands for Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television. It is the model Pluto TV and Tubi run on: live linear channels and on-demand content, free to the viewer, funded entirely by advertising, with no paid tier at any level. Viewers need no subscription, no login and no credit card.
It is the fastest-growing part of streaming, and streaming is already larger than broadcast and cable combined.
Requirement one: a live electronic program guide
A FAST platform is a lineup, not a video library. Every channel in it must publish, continuously, what is playing right now and what is playing next. That feed is the electronic program guide, or EPG, and it must be live, accurate and machine-readable, because the platform builds its own on-screen guide directly from it.
A channel that cannot publish a reliable EPG cannot be scheduled into a lineup. Programming quality does not compensate for it. This is the single most common reason an independent channel is turned down.
Requirement two: ad-insertion signaling
The second requirement follows from what “free” means. FAST is free to the viewer because it is ad-supported, and that only works if the platform can place advertising into a live stream at the correct moment. The channel has to signal where those moments are.
This is the requirement that quietly disqualifies most independent broadcasters. Producing good programming and operating a compliant live stream that a distributor can monetize are different disciplines with different staff. Many channels have never had to do the second one, because their own apps do not require it.
Why build it before a distributor asks
There was no distributor waiting when FaithNFreedom built its EPG and ad signaling. They were built because the network wanted pause-and-rewind on its own live channels, and because it did not want its future to depend on a vendor.
That turned out to be the decision that made carriage possible. Infrastructure built for internal reasons became the qualification for someone else’s platform. A channel that licenses these functions from a third party is dependent on that vendor’s roadmap; a channel that operates them can answer a distributor’s technical questions in the same conversation.
What Airy TV carriage means in practice
Airy TV is available on Amazon Fire TV, Android, Android TV, iOS, and any device with a web browser. FaithNFreedomTV appears in the Lifestyle category. There is no cost to the viewer at any point.
Lenny King, Chief Revenue Officer at Showfer Media, described the company’s model as removing everything that stands between a viewer and a channel they want to watch — no subscription, no login, no credit card. He also said FaithNFreedom came to them with a real network behind it.
